An Okinawa Rendez-vous Tale

On the Sunday afternoon of our trip to Okinawa we walked around Cape Manzamo which our English language Okinawa Road Map & Sightseeing Guide recommended as "A beautiful sightseeing spot overlooking the East China Sea where rough seas dash against the jutting coral cliffs." As our friend ytsl wrote the English language travel guide books available overseas have limited information on Okinawa attractions. We found the above publication put out in association with the Okinawa Rent-a-Car Association and given to us by our car rental company to be very helpful.

And look who again joined us for the day. We were happy to have Puppet Ponyo along as she's always good company and fun to photograph.

The main attraction at Point Manzamo aka Elephant Trunk. It almost looks like the elephant is going to walk into the sea.

Waves and rocks.

Don't you dare climb over that fence...... My cameras are in that bag.

Puppet Ponyo you look excited. What do you see? Yes, Ponyo, yes that hotel across the bay does look familiar.

Our sightseeing guide says it's the Manza Beach Resort. You think it was in a Hong Kong movie? Okinawa Rendez-vous with Leslie Cheung, Faye Wong and Tony Leung Ka-Fei? I think you're right! I hope you're right!

When I returned to Vermont I rewatched Okinawa Rendez-vous and Ponyo was right. The movie was still the delightful romantic caper I'd watched years ago. And recognizing many of the locations made this viewing that much more fun.

Hi sbk --

I loooove this entry. It's got Ponyo on a cliff by the sea, it's got a Hong Kong movie location in Okinawa, it's got lots of stuff to make me smile and laugh, etc. Really, what's not to like about it?! :)
